Every vs. Only. And why it’s so important Florida votes NO on Amendment 1. Words Matter.

Amendment 1 wants to replace language in our Florida constitution that currently guarantees the opportunity for EVERY eligible citizen to vote. Instead, the amendment proposes to say that ONLY eligible citizens can vote.

Voter suppression is a real threat to our democracy.

So what does that mean? The moment you say ONLY, you are not longer guaranteeing this right to all eligible voters. All of a sudden, suppressing the vote of adult citizens who had previously committed felony, could no longer "unconstitutional".

All of a sudden, those in power who want to maintain their grip on elections, have a tool to constitutionally permit further restriction that could make voting more difficult in the state of Florida.

"Every" is what we have today. "Every and only" would have been okay. But "Only" is what they want, because then choosing who gets to vote is back on the table, and our freedoms are set back 50+ years.
